Work package (WP4): Properties of composites

Presenting how the production method, conditions of use and composition of thermoplastic composites and nanocomposites based on polymer blends and extrudates obtained during WP 1, 2 and 3 impacts the physicomechanical, electrophysical and sorption properties of these products – at experimental training courses and a seminar. During the training course, experimental tests will be carried out in order to determine the impact of:
- conditions of blending various types of filler with thermoplastic polymers on the mechanical, physical and physicochemical properties of advanced composites,
- the composition of polymer blends on the processability and conditions of use of the prepared thermoplastic composites and nanocomposites,
- atmospheric factors, aggressive environments and cyclic temperature changes (from -40 to +500C) on the mechanical and electro-insulating properties of advanced composites.
All activities will be discussed in detail during the seminar and conference organised at the NULP.

Description of work:
1. Conducting research on the mixing method in roller machines and development and physical and chemical modification of polymers materials in viscous-flow state and determination of the characteristics of injection moulding and extrusion products.
2. Conducting research on the extrusion process and investigation of extrusion parameter impact on the productivity and quality of the obtained blends of polymers and production composites. Research will also be concerned with the sorption, diffusion and electrophysical characteristics of composites as well as the impact of climate change on the physical and mechanical properties of advanced composites based on thermoplastics.
3. Examining the physicomechanical, sorption and diffusion, and electrophysical properties of composites and nanocomposites from laboratory extrudates obtained in Work Package 1. Determining the impact of atmospheric factors, cyclic temperature changes and humidity as well as aggressive environments on the properties specified.
